Another prolific breeding plant in my collection that also deserves a proper introduction! It's a hybrid created by Dylan Nguyen who was also the creator of my A. dressleri RG x carlablackiae ‘Amanda’ breeding plant. Safe to say that I'm a big fan!
This RLFS x carlablackiae was actually a last minute addition to my first ever import from the States, and have I not regretted that purchase! She's such a stunner with her papillilaminum shaped leaves and minimal pink veins after the carlablackiae.
The RLFS was open pollinated (meaning that Dylan himself didn't apply the pollen to the inflorescence) so it will forever be unknown exactly which carlablackiae was the pollen donor as he had quite a few flowering at the time. More specifically F1s from his and Franco's collaboration between the Amanda parent and what I believe was an pre- or unnumbered RA carlablackiae. It might also have been the Amanda clone that was the pollen donor, but Dylan didn't think so although he wasn't certain the last time I talked to him about it. Based on the minimal veining that is very similar to those of my A. dressleri RG x carlablackiae ‘Amanda’ I personally wouldn't be surprised if indeed it was. But in truth, we will never know!
The RLFS (which by the way is short for Ralph Lynam x Fort Sherman, i.e. a cross between two of the most wellknown wild collected canal papillilaminums) was one of Dylan's hardiest and fastest growing plants - and this trait definitely passed on from it to this offspring. It was the first plant, I ever was able to hybridize simply because it is so quick and vigorously growing. She definitely keeps the other on the back wheel!
